Together with the bellows attachment (961 335) or with extension rings (961 333), the slide copying adapter (961 350) can be used with PRAKTICA B cameras to make the most varied kinds of copies and reproductions optically. It is possible to obtain monochrome or colour negatives, or duplicate slides from 35mm film strips or framed (5cm x 5cm) single slides. Other miniature reflex cameras can also be used with extension rings if the position of the tripod thread allows the camera and slide copying adapter to be optically aligned (e.g. PRAKTICA L cameras and EXA).

The opal film pressure plate is suitably illuminated and the film exposed with the camera in the automatic mode or by making use of the TTL metering system. Aperture 8 is recommended for the necessary depth-of-field.

Indirect illumination using an electronic flash unit is also acceptable (constant colour temperature). If this method is used, the device combination should be positioned about 40cm in front of a neutral white surface (see figure 3). A single test series serves to determine the apertures appropriate for low-density, normal and high-density sildes. In this way, the same set-up will always deliver identical results.

Figure 3
Set-up of the system in Figures 2 and 3

Screw carrier (2) onto a tripod or the like as shown in the figure 1/4" tripod thread). Replug film holder (15), if necessary. Standard (13) of the bellows attachment is at the rear stop of prismatic guideway (12). Attach the camera body and insert the lens (f=50mm) in front of standard (14). Set the lens to infinity. Shift front standard (14) until the index on scale (16) is in the middle between 4 and 6 (image scale 1=50mm extension). Lock in this position using knob (17).

Use the 3/8" screw to fix the automatic bellows attachment with carrier (2) on focussing slide (11 ). See that locating pin (3) is seated in the 1/4" tapped hole.

Loosen clamping ring (4). Align film holder (15) with the optical axis (use the finder system) and lock in this position with clamping ring (4). Turn screw (8) to loosen clamping frame (6). Push the short part (51mm diameter) onto the lens and fasten with screw (8). Clamp the single slide or film strip under opal film pressure plate (15). Check position by looking through the camera viewfinder and correct if necessary. Film ends may be wrapped around studs (7). Focus by loosening locking knob (17) and turning knob (10) while looking through the viewfinder. Clamp the system by retightening locking knob (17).

Set-up of the system in Figure 4

Screw carrier (2) onto a tripod or the like as shown in the figure (1/4" thread). Replug the film holder, if necessary. Attach extension rings (12.5mm+25mm) to the camera and insert the 50mm lens. If the closest distance that can be set on a lens is 0.33m, 0.35m, 0.45m or 0.6m, a supplementary lens of 3 dioptres is required to obtain an image scale of 1.

Use 1/4" screw (1) to fix the camera on carrier (2). Loosen clamping ring (4) and align film holder (15) with the optical axis (use the finder system). Lock in this position with clamping ring (4). Focus by loosening 1/4" clamping screw (1) slightly and shifting the camera in axial direction while looking through the viewfinder. Then fix the camera in this position using 1/4" clamping screw (1) and give the camera a final axial alignment, if necessary.

See Figure 4 and proceed analogously, but use the extension rings 7mm, 14mm and 28mm. A close-up is not needed.
