While retaining the Praktica L-series chassis, the EE2 differs by having an electronically-timed shutter offering a stepless range of speeds from 1/1000s to 1s; partnering with the full-aperture metering system it gives aperture-priority exposure automation; the calculated shutter speed is displayed by a pointer against a scale in the viewfinder.
Around the rewind knob is the shutter speed dial offering a range of manually-set speeds from 1/1000s to 1/30s, along with flash sync, B and the automatic settings; when set to manual speeds the exposure meter is disengaged. At the position where the shutter speed dial is normally found, a dial sets the film speed and exposure compensation in a way similar to the contemporary Contax reflex camera.
As the space around the rewind knob is already occupied, the diaphragm simulation disengage switch has been moved to the side of the mirror box, and two other features have been added: a battery check button on the base plate, and a viewfinder eyepiece blind operated by a switch above the eyepiece.
Perhaps more evolutionary than revolutionary, the EE2 went a long way to dispel the public's image of Pentacon's conservatism, and paved the way to the revolutionary B-series. |
