High-speed focal plane shutter
Success in your photographic work extremely depends on the shutter of the camera. We thus recommend you to select precision of utmost level: the metal blade focal plane shutter of the PRAKTICA MTL 3 - it is resistant against temperature influences, it works with absolute time stability, nearly noiseless, and is as rapid as lightning speed: Shutter speeds between 1/1000 sec and 1 sec as well as B setting for any longer speed. Two flash connections. Benificially short synchro speed of 1/125 sec for electronic flashes. Very conveniently you release your camera with the inclined shutter release and cock it with the handy rapid-cocking lever. |
|
Correct exposure
The PRAKTICA MTL 3 has got the automatic exposure control based on the TTL metering system working with beam splitter, light concentrator, and photoelectric cell.
Only such light is metered which necessarily contributes to the composition of your picture. This is of importance for additional lenses (because the image angle equals the metering angle). And also factors which result from the use of extension lengthening accessories and filters are automatically taken into consideration by this exposure control. For metering you just depress the metering key, conveniently arranged near the shutter release, and observe the meter needle in the finder image (where plus and minus marks warn for over and under exposures). As soon as the needle has come to rest on the fixed mark, diaphragm numeral and shutter speed have been brought into proper relation for exposure.
|
Marks in the viewfinder image protect against over (+) and under exposures (-). Correct exposure speed is signalled with the needle standing on '0'. |
|
Focusing of double reliability
You select and focus your subject as simply and exactly as possible on the wide and very bright image in the prism finder of your PRAKTICA MTL 3. Its optical components have got a dereflecting treatment. Highest brillancy is obtained by the special focusing system comprising Fresnel lens with metering wedges and micro screen ring. Both these means ensure double focusing reliability for striking picture definition. Readiness for taking is indicated in the finder of the camera. |
|
Close-ups become possible without accessories
A high-quality reflex camera should only be used with high-quality lenses - the PRAKTICA MTL 3 offers you top products manufactured by PENTACON and in JENA: they offer you superbrilliant sharpness, widest apertures of 1.8, automatic stop-down control, reflex-reducing multiple coating and, as a speciality, the extremely long worm threads intended for macro settings as close as 33 cm and 35 cm, resp., without accessories. You will thus be able to take attractive close-ups with image scales down to 0.25 = 1:4, i. e. the subjects will be reproduced in the size of a postcard. |
Taken with one of the commercial standard lenses, the shortest focusing distance being 50 cm, only. |
Taken with PENTACON auto 50 mm f/1.8, focusing distance 33 cm, frame-covering reproduction. |

Sure and convenient film loading with the PL automatic film loading system. |
High operating comfort
Surprisingly simple is the operation of the PRAKTICA MTL 3. The automatic PL-film loading system enables you to load your camera with the film within a few seconds. And the frame counter which automatically returns into its initial position, as well as the stable rewind crank accelerate and facilitate film changing. Scales and setting marks of signal colours improve the security in use. And owing to the handy cover of the camera with its elastic surface the PRAKTICA MTL 3 will surely rest in your hands. The camera is small in dimensions, and its weight is below the average. |
|
Versatility through an ample lens and accessory programme
The PRAKTICA MTL 3 is part of a wide-spread system which enables you to successfully take pictures in all fields. High-quality lenses with the internationally applied M 42 x 1 PRAKTICA thread and focal lengths from 20 mm to 1000 mm will offer to you unlimited possibilities in taking your pictures. The multiply coated lenses (MC - multi coating) make sure for an especially high picture quality. A wide range of accessories guarantees excellent pictures in close-up, micro, and astro photography, in reproduction, optical slide-copying, and in many other activities in the fields of science and technique. |

Lenses for the PRAKTICA MTL 3
*with macro setting down to 33 cm and 35 cm, resp. MC = Multicoating, reflex reducing multiple coating ADB = Automatic pressure diaphragm (in connection with the PRAKTICA MTL 3 the automatic pressure diaphragm becomes the higher-grade automatic spring diaphragm) SB = Spring diaphragm (diaphragm mechanism must be cocked) VB = Pre-set diaphragm.
Among these, all the other M42 screw-mount lenses will fit your MTL 3 camera, for that please see our M42 lens list. |

Sophisticated flash technique
The PRAKTICA MTL 3 is provided with two flash connections: the firmly attached accessory shoe for flash lamps and electronic flash units with centre contact, and a flash contact for cable connection at the front of the camera. This allows you to choose your flash means individually as to your intention. For flash pictures of a particularly high quality level you even can make use of two flash units at one and the same time. Both connections have their circuits separated while ignition is connected in parallel via a double contact actuated by the shutter.
 |
Additional flash socket for cable connection |
 |
Accessory shoe with centre contact for immediate readiness |
This flash technique makes it possible to simultaneously use the light from the front and from the side or the counterlight, and direct and indirect, too. Flash pictures of such a kind will be amazing by their extremely high photographic quality level. |
