Introduced in 1975, the Praktica VLC added extra versatility to the LLC by a system of interchangeable viewfinder and focussing screens. With a choice of three viewfinders and seven focussing screens of different optical characteristics, Pentacon devised a body-integral metering system completely independent of the viewfinder configuration.
Within the reflex mirror assembly is a complex beam splitter arrangement. Two tiny mirrors siphon off a constant percentage of light from the central part of the image, and direct it to emerge from a port at the left-hand edge of the mirror. This port aligns with a CdS sensor housed in the wall of the mirrorbox, giving a heavily centre-weighted metering pattern. This viewfinder-independent arrangement is so far advanced than contemporary cameras that it had been almost 20 years before the other makers was able to catch up.
This reflex camera can be equipped with 2 exchangeable viewfinder attachments and 7 field lenses for all specific situations in photography. With each of these viewfinders the effect of universal light metering is maintained. Transmission of diaphragm values is electric, too. If required, open-aperture metering at brightest finder image can be changed to working-aperture measurement. |
