While it is still believed by some that it never went into series production, fewer than 3,400 units of the Praktica electronic was indeed built in its one-year production run from early 1968. Based on the nova chassis, it has its shutter timing done electronically, giving speeds from a full 30 seconds to 1/500s, with a mechanically-timed 1/60s which is also its fastest speed for electronic and bulb flash synchronisation. Like the Prakticamat, the shutter speed is set on a dial around the rewind knob, and at the usual place for the shutter speed dial is a selector dial for selecting its mechanical speed. To satisfy the increased demand of power, the PX21 alkaline battery is needed.
One wonders if Pentacon could have combined the TTL-metering system in the Prakticamat with the electronic shutter to offer aperture-priority exposure automation; if that be the case one could only imagine what the camera would be like. |
